Top Rolex Features

What makes Rolex so popular and indisputably the best?

Its innovative features and components.

Iconic Rolex Oyster Case

The Rolex Oyster case is known for its waterproof technology and durability. This case was first introduced in 1926 and was the world’s first waterproof wristwatch case.

Rolex has carefully improved this design over the years, making sure that it can withstand a wide range of outside factors while still being very reliable.

The Oyster case's original patented design consists of three main components:

  • The bezel
  • The case back
  • The winding crown

This design protects the watch from water, dust, and other environmental factors.

Lugs and Their Role

Lugs are components that connect the watch case and its bracelet. They’re prepared from the same material as the case and are carefully polished or satin-finished to blend with the entire design.

Their functional role doesn’t stop them from contributing to the unique character of each model.

The Cyclops Lens

Introduced in 1953, the Cyclops lens is a hallmark of Rolex watches. This small lens sits above the date window and magnifies the date for easy reading. Rolex has kept making this lens better.

It is now made of sapphire crystal, which does not scratch easily. It has an anti-reflective coating, which makes it a more comfortable experience for the user thanks to clear legibility.

Triplock Winding Crown

Rolex made the Triplock winding crown in 1970. This innovative system has three sealed areas that make it more waterproof. It’s specifically designed for deep-sea diving watches, guaranteeing protection even at extreme depths.

Being such an advanced construction, the Triplock system makes certain that water, dust, or other contaminants can’t enter the watch.

The Helium Escape Valve

In 1967, Rolex made the helium escape valve for professional divers. This system allows helium (used during saturation diving) to safely escape from the watch.

If this valve was not there, the extra helium pressure could damage the watch when it decompresses. Rolex's innovation makes sure that the watch stays whole and works even when it is submerged in very deep water.

The Ringlock System

The Ringlock system was created by Rolex in 2008 to protect watches at very deep underwater depths.

There are three layers to this patented case structure:

  • a domed sapphire crystal
  • a nitrogen-enriched steel compression ring
  • a titanium case-back

These parts work together to withstand high pressure, which means that the watch will still work perfectly even in the deepest water.

The above features are proof of Rolex’s commitment to reliability and innovation in watchmaking.
